Dear reader, hello and thank you for wandering into my corner of the internet.
I am Lis („• ֊ •„)(she/her/hers). My legal name is Lisabelle Tan, but please call me by my preferred name. I am currently an early-career library and information studies professional based in Singapore. I have an ALA-accredited Master’s in Library and Information Studies (MLIS) degree from the University of British Columbia, and a Bachelor’s in Arts (Highest Distinction) in English Literature with a minor in Japanese Studies from the National University of Singapore. I possess over 7 years of experience in the library, archives, and information field across three full-time job postings and two internships in Singapore and two student and independent contractor roles in Vancouver, Canada.
Presently seeking a career pivot away from “vocational awe”, and towards vocational discernment and realism. I am cognisant of my strengths and skills, aware of my shortcomings (a work-in-progress), and confident about contributing to deepening the impact of the organisations that I seek to be part of.
I care deeply about work relating to social impact and social issues such as inequality, feminism and gender equality, public health with a focus on mental health advocacy, lifelong learning and discovery, literary arts, and the visual arts. I write, photograph (Lomography/Instagram), make, and create. You may view a selection of my works on my “Portfolio” page.
In a world that prizes conformity, I value “principled defiance”.
In a world that thrives on noise, I am anchored by silence and stillness.
In a world awash with confusion, I seek clarity.
In a world of flux and volatility, I am guided by my core values of compassion, integrity, and responsibility — my north stars as I navigate living bravely and truthfully.
